The SS-1M module
Hybrid microassemblies in a Soviet telemetry-system module.
The name means “Synchronisation System, modification 1M”. Developed in the 1970s, the SS-1M was the first third-generation microelectronic instrument to replace the switching devices, or signal selectors, in older telemetry systems.
It switches and encodes signals from many sensors and produces synchronised control pulses. In particular, it collects analogue sensor signals, such as temperatures and pressures, multiplexes them by connecting each in turn to a shared channel, then converts them into digital code.
This isn't the complete book, just a few pages.
The manufacturer is the Komponent plant in Zelenograd, which still exists. All the integrated circuits are unpackaged dies on a common ceramic substrate. Each little green bump would normally be inside its own packaged chip. Some elements can also be etched directly onto the substrate, while others are surface-mounted. Formally these are hybrid integrated microassemblies.
Presumably used in Sirius, Skut and related telemetry systems in large rockets and ground-based radar stations.
